By now you’ve seen our latest release with AI-Powered Smile Design on iPhone, a revolutionary update. You know how they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder? Well, there are additional features available that have been added to allow you (the beholder) to perfect your smile designs to your liking or better yet, that of your patients.

In this post we’re going to be diving into each feature and how to use them to perfect your smile design. Keep in mind that with AI-generated smile design, the goal is to motivate the patient and in over 85% of those designs it gets the job done so as long as the frontal-facial picture is taken correctly. To learn about the perfect picture, watch this tutorial.

Customizing the AI-Generated Smile Simulation

Generate Smile

The app automatically places the smile frame and also recognizes the patient’s lip line to simulate the smile in the mouth. To use the advanced features at this stage is entirely optional and typically used to make additional customization to the smile design generated by the AI.

You’ve probably noticed that the app automatically classifies the patient based on their facial features: young, middle age, or mature. Based on this classification, it also sets the shape and form of the teeth. To change the tooth shape you can select oval, square, or triangular and then click on Generate to create a smile with your new selection.

The Smile Jam and Free combination allows you to experiment with the mix of all smile libraries that the app offers without any type of boundaries.

By clicking on the Lip button you can readjust the lip line in case it needs adjustments.

Smile Harmony

The features under Smile Harmony are some of the most exciting features to customize the smile and to make it unique for your patient.

Dominance option allows you to change the size of the lateral incisors to give more or less emphasis on the central incisors.

Midline option allows you to set the patient’s smile frame position, shifting it between the dental midline and facial midline to create overall facial harmony.

Occlusal Plane option allows you to easily adjust the occlusal angle of the new smile, creating a more esthetically pleasing result.

The Smile Curve option allows you to set the curvature of your patient’s smile according to the position of the lower lip curvature and desired tooth display when smiling.

Smile Donator

With the Smile Donators you can select from highly-sought smiles inspired by celebrities like Julia Roberts, Jessica Alba, and Jennifer Lopez to name a few. The Jan Hajto Libraries include tooth shapes based on the natural collection by Dr. Jan Hajto.

You can easily change each tooth for maximum customization by tapping on the desired tooth and swiping up or down or you can change the entire set by using the arrows on the left side of the screen. All teeth are fully anatomical and reproduced according to natural morphologies.

Smile Frame

The smile frame helps you better understand the position of the new smile design of your patient. Adjust the position of the dental midline by using the arrows, change the height, width and shape of the new teeth by moving the sliders to the right or left .

Use the Buccal Corridor option to set the position of the premolars and molars to give a narrower or wider smile.

By default, the AI-generated smile simulation uses 12 teeth for the design. You can easily modify that by using the Number of Teeth option. You can display from 6 to 12 teeth. This will give you the chance to create excellent documentation to send to your dental technician and staff involved in the treatment.

Select Color

In Colors, you have the option to Select Color from three templates or you can select explore other options like adjusting the Warmth and Brightness to adapt the design to the color of the picture. This can impact the design tremendously.

If necessary, you can darken the Posterior Teeth by tapping in the link icon and move the slider to create a natural result.

The Tint option allows you to change the hue of the teeth to be able to cool the colors in the lighter spots of the enamel. You would use this function with the warmth slider to give the simulation that added realism so that it blends in naturally with the patient’s complexion.

In certain cases, you also will need to simulate perio procedures where the patient shows the gingiva when smiling. To do this use the Gums Saturation option to set the saturation of the gum by moving the slider or changing the Gums Opacity to create the most natural-looking simulation.

Lastly, in some cases you will need to enlarge the shadow of your design to hide or cover the patient’s bottom teeth. You can do this by moving the Shadow Position slider.

Before & After

To show your patient the results of the smile simulation, using the Before and After tool is a very impactful way to visualize the difference between his/her actual situation and the beauty of a new smile.

By tapping on Share, the picture will be automatically saved onto your phone’s gallery and you can share it with your patient, colleagues involved in the case, your lab, or ever publish on social media (with patient’s consent of course)!

As you can see, DSDApp is a powerful tool to have in your practice and to transform the way your patient’s experience dentistry. This is an entirely immersive experience for them and opens the opportunity to connect with them in an entirely new approach.
